Sofia Maldonado
Born in 1984 in Puerto Rico from a Cuban mother. As a mural painter mixes interdisciplinary art practice with street culture. The use of vibrant, undulating colors in her works portrays Maldonado's admiration for the Caribbean landscape, along with the chaos of the city and the abandoned structures within the urban environment. There is an evident blend of fashion trends, the Latina female aesthetic and various street culture elements such as skateboarding and graffiti tags in her visual concept.

Her most recent public projects have been presented by The Time Square Alliance and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund; Real Art Ways; 10th Havana Biennale; Graphopoli. She has given lectures and taught community workshops at the Universidad de Puerto Rico, the Escuela de Artes Plasticas, Taller Puertorriqueño, and Rollins College. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally in various group and solo shows in the USA, South America, and Europe.
